Another great opportunity to visit one the oldest bars!  We traveled to Jacksonville for a wedding and had a chance to make the short drive to Fernandina Beach.  I think that we all fell a little in love with this quaint town.  The were hosting a Pontiac car show, which gave this little town an extra boost of energy!  The houses along the roads were beautiful to say the least.  All combined together you felt like you were back in the 60s!  File_006

The Palace Saloon is located a block from the water along center street.  I like that it appears they have not done much to change the look of the outside of the building. File_002File_004

The original doors also still hang on the outside of the building.  Not to mention…when is the last time you saw a cigarette machine?!  Speaking of cigarettes, I had forgotten how nice it is to go to a place where smoking is not allowed.  Every table in this place had a smoker which was bothersome but also somehow added to the charm.  File_005(2)File_004(2) We had read on our way to the bar that the original bar cost around $1200 in 1905, what would be around $34,000 today.  The original tin tiles are still on the ceiling, as well as the marble on the walls.  It is pretty neat to think about the fact that they really invested quite a bit of money when originally building this bar. File_005  File_007 File_003(2)  This is the bathroom!  It made me chuckle because it seems like it was an after thought.  File_001(2)

No food is served here so we tried a few of their specialty cocktails.  Bloody Mary, Jalapeno Margarita, and of course the Pirate’s Punch.  Most patrons were drinking the punch which came in a keeper cup!  All the drinks were good but the margarita was not spicy enough for our taste:)         File_008File_000(2)
