Hands down on the of the most amazing experiences I have had on this trip was visiting the bees.  I failed to mention in the last post that Haddon Farm ALSO has thriving bee hives.  Starting in April they will have honey to sell along with the eggs.  _BSC0065Real quick about the eggs…I spoke to the “egg man”  after a full day of selling eggs on the streets of Ocho Rios and his numbers were awesome.  He had sold 72 flats of eggs in one day.  He said “it is nice to see all this hard work really start to pay off”.  Like all other sales…he is building his brand, consistently showing up with a great product and the business is growing.  He is hoping to sell 35 on Friday and 35 more on Saturday!  Stretch goals 🙂

Now on to the honey spot…we were able to suit up and literally go into the bee hive.  One of the students at the program, Blair, is very comfortable with handling and working with the bees.  He is pictured in the tan cover.  He showed no fear when showing us multiple stages of the hives starting with the newest one to the first one they started.  I wish I could somehow relay what the sound was like.  To some in our group it was unnerving.  I thought it was beautiful.  I thought I would feel some fear…but not at all.  It was magical.  Ps.  I am pictured with the smoker.  Maybe the smoke worked on me to because I really was so calm._CSC0019                  _CSC0027 _CSC0032

Going a bit backwards on this one…our day actually started by going to a school where we gave a quick devotional to elementary and middle school girls and boys.  My group was with the girls.  They were all so smart and kind!  So obedient and responsive.  They sang this beautiful prayer song…I wish I knew the words because it was one that I would love to hear over and over!  Especially from their sweet voices… _BSC0010I loved seeing their career aspirations…what an inspiration.  I pray that they achieve all of their dreams.   _BSC0013Now some more amazing pictures (by Sam) of the farm…

After a morning on the farm and a wonderful worship service in their future rec room, we made a quick stop for souvenirs at the famous Ocho Rios market.  The boys learned some major negotiating skills.  Let’s just say that I went in focused on what I wanted to buy and was out as quick as possible.  It was STRESFULL!  These boys went back two times with less money just to see how far they could go!  They continued to discuss and laugh about the sales tactics of the market sales people for many hours later!  Memories were definitely made…

We ended the day with an authentic Jamaican meal at Scotchies and also treated ourselves to a snow cone from the Teen Challenge Snow Cone stand in town.
