When we first started planning a trip to Alabama it was all about Gumbo Key and visiting with one of my best friends from high school and her family.  We started talking about it and my sister and her boyfriend Greg decided to come as well as my parents.  Luckily Shawn was also able to get a few days off and join me on this trip as well.  We rented a condo at the Phoneix on the Bay (II) and rented a pontoon from the Flora-bama marina!  The trip was so much fun.  The Gumbo Key event was awesome and it was so cool to be at a concert in the middle of the gulf.  Early in the trip someone suggested that we try and go to the oldest bar in Alabama.  Strangely I had not even thought to see if if was close by.  Ironically we had chosen to fly into Mobile vs Pensacola for a couple different reasons and guess where the oldest bar is…Mobile!!  So on our way to the airport we were able to stop by and check out the Oldest Bar in Alabama!

ALABAMA

It should surprise absolutely nobody that the oldest bar in Alabama was started by “a plantation owner with large holdings, and a loyal Southerner who fought in General Lee’s army.” In New York this would likely lead to your bar getting picketed (unless you put it in Williamsburg to be “ironic”), but in Alabama it makes you one of the most popular spots in Mobile.

It was also Father’s day so we hit this spot at the perfect time.  Known for their brunch we felt lucky to get a table.  We ordered a few drinks and brunch meals.  The drinks and food were good.

Once the waiter told me the Bloddy Mary was famous of course I had to try it!  It was very, very good!  And I am always sold on a bloody with lots snacks 🙂
Few people know that Mardi Gras was actually started in Mobile so this city is rich with history!  I wish that we could have visited the original site for this restaurant but the new location was nice and convenient.  Once again it is really fun for the that my family was able to join me and that have rallied around me in this adventure!  All in all this was a perfecting ending to our trip!
