I am late to the game…about 5 seasons late. As a reformed spender, I decided that one bill that could go was cable. I found out later that I was among quite a few cable quitters. Some people were baffled by my decision, most thought it was smart. Along with everything else that I have learned in the last year, I entered a world of technology that I did not know existed! I now have a digital antenna (approximately $80), Netflix ($15.98/month), a Wii for Netflix live streaming (birthday present from my parents) , and all the TV I could ever want! I get about 10 channels from the antenna, so I have news, weather and can keep up on some ABC shows that I like! The best part is the Netflix live streaming. I have been able to start and finish a few different series…mostly from Showtime. I am obsessed with Weeds, US of Tara, Californication, oh and how can I forget Nurse Jackie! I also started and finished the entire series of Lost. I am still Lost! So my new venture is Mad Men. What an interesting show. I see why it has won so many awards. The costume, set, and story line is one that I am quickly sucked into.
The writers are hugely creative with the story line. There are many underlying themes running through the plot…but the one that interests me the most is the creativity written in around the actual advertising. The thought process that Don Draper goes through is one that I am sure is not unlike the what the writers go through. The web of ideas, thoughts, and the process they use to get to the end result is very interesting.
As a business owner I did not realize that I was going to have to become an expert as things that I have never been exposed to in a work manner of speaking. Advertising being at the top of that list! Today I sit here (a tad under the weather) catching up on things like blogging, all the while watching Mad Men. I am strangely inspired by not only the fashion but the thought process. One thing I have learned from some of my customers it is that they are nostalgic (and forward) about telling me about their loved ones wearing towels tied around their necks, insinuating their first cape!
Every time I hear one of these stories I can not help but think..I am on the right track. My tees provide that same feeling of freedom to the child but also provides a much safer option. No choking here!
Just coming off the holiday season..I am now in the midst of where do I start? I have lots of goals and resolutions for 2012. One of the top initiatives is my Kickstarter project. This is a huge opportunity for exposure to a new set of peers. I can only imagine where this could take me!
Another is a project that I am keeping under wraps for right now but it could be huge for LOF’s future! Work, work, work! My mom told me that I should crawl back in bed today…I think the Dr would subscribe more Mad Men and let the creative wheels turn. Some times you just need to marinate and soak it all up…and for this vegetarian…Mad Men is my steak of choice!
