The last few weeks we have been on a roller-coaster of ups and downs.  The feedback and support I have gotten for opening up my heart, in person and on this blog, has been humbling and makes me happy.  I feel that it may be an ironic time to write this post but I heard a statement that has stuck with me and made me reflective over what has been happening.

It was simple… “This is what happiness feels like…”

So simple but so much power within those 6 words.  Immediately I started writing a list of simple moments that made me happy.  Trying to stay true to my promise to nurture my un-zippered heart…I thought I would share some of those moments with you guys…

  • Acting like a 5 year old with Sam in Target.  Eventually getting a goofy picture of him in front of the fake pumpkins and him walking out in a banana costume!

  • Walking across the finish line for the 5th time and final time for the Avon Walk Charlotte. They discontinued the Charlotte walk so looking back I am happy that I was present in that moment.

  • Hiking to a peak, sharing a PB&J and laying down to look over the peak with a special someone. While I appreciate the views and want to be brave, I do not always feel the most comfortable with the height.  Looking back this may have been a metaphor for things to come, but I was very, very happy in that moment and will always remember and cherish it!

  • Giving a high pressured speech in front of a large group of women and lobbying in DC. At the time it was so uncomfortable, but they were many moments of happiness because I DID it!

  • The first time that Sam took me on a boat ride.  I knew I was going to have to fight the nerves of letting him take control.  The look on his face driving that boat is one that I will never forget.  True happiness…

  • Literally almost peeing myself from laughing so hard at Brett and Greg on Halloween.  A Khalessi would never have shown this much happiness.  They are hilarious and their humor continues to make me happy.

  • There have been quite a few moments of happiness while catching up with friends!  One moment that is sticking out is being with the girls at the Old Mecklenburg Brewery…taking silly pictures and picking on each other so hard.  I am happy to have friends that do not take themselves to serious!

  • Another is a wine tour with my Greensboro crew.  Who knew there were that many Llama jokes?! Yall make me happy 🙂

  • The helicopter ride in Hawaii.  Such an amazing feeling to see the beauty there…also the mice.  Even though you were annoying…you eventually made my family really happy!

  • Watching my brother (from another mother of course) do the impossible…run 100 miles.  Such an amazing accomplishment and I was happy and honored to be part of it.

  • Sledding with Sam.  My bum and back are still not right but worth every bruise and ache.

  • Crying on my Mom’s shoulder…although I was crying because I was sad….I am so happy to have her and my Dad.
  • Watching my Dad dance!  He has moves!  I knew he loved to dance but lately it has been off the charts.  His happiness dancing is contagious and it has made me loosen up, let go and just dance!

  • Running while Sam skateboards.  This is such a simple thing and he begrudgingly went along with it a few times.  It made me happy that we found something we could do together.

  • My silly dogs make me happy on a daily basis.  I am constantly giggling at their quirky personalities.  So many moments there…Fitz putting his smushed face on my arm…so loving…even when GeeGee got bitten by a snake…mostly because I was there and was able to save her life.

  • The moment where I realized I was growing my business.  Such happiness to get to this point.  So much hard work showing through…more to come about this!

  • Carolynn surprising me on my birthday!  This girl has gotten me a few times now!  I am always so happy when I am around her!

I could go on forever!  While all my moments are not happy, majority are.  Opening up my heart and my mind has made me realize this….and that makes me the HAPPIEST of all!
