I decided if I talk about a subject more than once, or in this case, every single chance that I have, that it probably would be a good subject for a blog post. So here I am admitting my obsession in writing. Which is ironic because it is what I am reading! I started reading Fitfty Shades of Grey, by EL James on Easter weekend. I had seen someone make a comment about this book on Facebook and thought the title looked interesting. Little did I know what I was getting myself into! I have been spreading the love ever since I read 1/4 of the book in less than 2 hours. I kept myself up the other night reading until 4:30 am because I LITERALLY could not put the book down. I am not verbally doing justice to the description…so here is the public one!
Plot
The plot traces the relationship between recent college graduate Anastasia Steele and manipulative billionaire Christian Grey. Steele is required by Grey to sign a contract allowing him complete control over her life. As she gets to know him she learns that his sexual tastes involve bondage, domination and sadism, and that childhood abuse left him a deeply damaged individual. In order to be his partner she agrees to experiment with BDSM, but struggles to reconcile who she is (a virgin who has never previously had a boyfriend) with who Christian wants her to be: his submissive to do with as he pleases in his “Red Room of Pain.” [6][4]
Sounds crazy right??!!! There are many critics of the book saying it is a huge step back for women. I am not sure why I find the subject interesting but for some reason…I am hooked. I am sure this type of lifestyle exists more than we all think right….or am I delusional? I did hear EL speak on Good Morning America and she said that she was simply writing her fantasies down. I do have to give her a nod for ending the first book in such a way that you are desperate to keep reading. I can only imagine how much sleep I am going to lose staying up to read this week. So long BDSM story short…I do recommend this as a read, if you are curious at all! Stay tuned…because there will be a movie version as well. The theaters will be on fire!
