Update on Sam’s mission trip! I was able to speak to him on the phone on Tuesday and he was elated to say the least. I am pretty sure this guy is going to love traveling as much as I do! I have to share a funny/enlightening convo I had with him. It went something like this…
Sam: So we are staying at this church and they have the biggest youth group I have ever seen.
Me: Really? Bigger than Forest Hill?
Sam: Yeah…and lots of girls.
Me: Girls…eweeeee (in an embarrassing parent tone of voice)
Sam: Yeah it has been awhile since I was around girls so it was awkward. But Coach Nick is helping me be less awkward.
Me: Oh yeah…how is he doing that?
Sam: He just walked with me right up to the girls and said “hey” so then I just said “hey”. I also just started a conversation with someone that I had not met yet. They were really nice.
Me: People like to be talked to. If you feel comfortable, they will automatically feel comfortable. I am proud of you. So wait…how does it feel to talk to girls with no teeth? Were you embarrassed?
Sam: No, it was okay.
Me: At least you have a good story! We will get your teeth fixed…I promise!I just thought I would share this with you guys because it made me chuckle and I think it just goes to show how much he is growing! These coaches are giving him more than I will ever know. I am so proud of him and so thankful God has provided this for us.

Now a recap of the trip from Pastor John…
“NCBA MISSIONS TRIP
VA, DC, NJ & NY
On Thursday, May 28th, the staff and students of NCBA left for a 13 day missions trip.
In VA, the boys spent their days at Yorktown Beach, tubing down the Rappahanock River in Fredericksburg, attending Stafford Crossing Community Church & their youth group celebration and visiting The Marine Corps Museum. This does not include the many blessings of special friends’ gatherings and amazing treats stuffed in between!
In DC, the boys experienced the Metro (subway) and saw the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Vietnam Memorial, the Lincoln and Washington Memorials and the White House. Lots of walking!
In NJ, the boys overnighted at Central Assembly of God, Newark and attended their youth group.
In NY, the boys visited the memorial at Ground Zero and headed to Long Island to begin the “service” side of the trip. Working beside Long Island Teen Challenge, the students will be a part of the Convoy of Hope, a food distribution ministry to those in need. They will help to unload and dispense 4 tractor trailers full of food! They will also be attending church services on Sunday.
In VA, the boys will make an overnight pit stop at their gracious hosts’ homes, the Gonzalez & Clark families, before heading back to NC on Tuesday, June 9th.
Trips like these are monumental in every way! NCBA is completely overwhelmed by the generosity of Kingdom-minded friends and the opportunities that the boys experienced each and every day. We are blessed beyond reason and thank all of our supporters for showering our students with love that knows no bounds. It’s been a WOW experience! Thank you! “
