People always say…weddings can be so fun! Typically people remember to food, the band, and if they don’t actually have too many…the drinks! I was not one of the people that ever thought weddings are fun. To say that I dreaded them is probably harsh but accurate. So many decisions to be made…what to wear? what to bring as a gift? do i bring a date? will i have to awkwardly dance? who will i be at a table with? and on and on! If it is this stressful as a guest I can only imagine how stressful it is as a bride!
Last January (2011) when thinking about the upcoming year and my resolutions, I decided to make one be that I would make a solid attempt to have fun at all the weddings I was going to be attending. A resolution of sorts but mostly a change in my attitude. Specifically I changed a few key things that I think have made all the difference as a wedding guest.
1. Dress- I promised myself that I would be comfortable. No more shoes that killed me just because they looked better. I mean really…who looks at your feet anyways!
2. Date- I decided that if I had someone in my life who I was comfortable with that “wanted” to attend with me then they could. If not flying solo is so much less stressful!
3. Gifts- Being on a tight budget this was a challenge but I think I have finally found the answer and hopefully it will help me make money! (Leap of Faith Bridal Collection)
4. Dancing- ahh…the awkward there are 12 couples and 2 kids dancing! All the weddings I have attended, I have made an effort to dance to the songs that I like and sit out the ones that I do not. It has made all the difference. Being out there dancing to a song you like will naturally attract others to want to dance with you! It is kind of magical 🙂
5. Eating- Little did I know that starting to eat as a vegetarian presented a whole other set of awkwardness other than just who I would be eating next to. Again I think it is all about attitude. I can talk to a brick wall…literally. Why did I care who I sat next too:) I may even connect with someone new and outside of the box…beware! And lets just put it out there..I am not going to waste away. So I eat what I can and do not worry about what I can’t eat!
So I can honestly say that I am now a good wedding guest! I look forward to all aspects of the wedding! It is a good thing too…because 5 weddings last year and 6-7 this year makes for a busy wedding lover!
